Malware creators have upped the ante recently by trying represent legitimate warnings from Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome.  It starts from a compromised website that auto-detects your browser.  Once it does that, it presents the user with a warning screen like the ones below:

 

These are fakes, but they are very good fakes.  You can see in the top one for Firefox, the authors misspelled 'out' in 'Get me our of here".  The goal is to get you to download the Fake Win7 AV (aka MSIL/Zeven) whicjh looks alot like Microsoft's Security Essentials. They assume that you will trust what your browser displays and click on their rogue application.


Besides spelling errors, a common indication that you are not looking at the actual browser warning is the offer of some sort of an “update” or “solution”.  All the “updates” point to a copy of MSIL/Zeven that promises to provide “a new approach to windows detection”. Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome do not offer such a solution when a website is blocked.

So to recap, be careful if you see any browser warnings and if you see a website touting an application called Win7 AV, do not download it.
